Graduated in Medicine and Surgery at the University of Rome "La Sapienza" in 1987. From 1989 to 1992 she worked at the Hopital Cochin Biochimie Genetique laboratory in Paris, directed by Dr. Pascale Briand. In 1992 she was Associate Professor of Internal Medicine at L'Aquila University. Since 1993 she has been in charge of the laboratory and of the clinic "Epatology clinic" at the Department of Internal Medicine and Public Health at the University of L'Aquila. Since 2003 she has been responsible for the Laboratory of "Viral and Molecular Oncology" at the Fondazione Andrea Cesalpino. From 2005 to 2009, the scientific director of IRCCS SR-La Pisana's "Developmental Pathology" Laboratory. In 2006, she was awarded a Comparative Evaluation (Dt 3455, October 3, 2006) to a post of Ordinary Professor, MED / 09-Internal Medicine, at the University of L'Aquila. In January 2008 she was eligible for the comparative evaluation for the selection of National Research Institute Institute directors (CNR) (Call No. 364.9) for the direction of the Institute of Molecular Biology and Molecular Pathology (IBPM). Since the academic year 2008/2009 Director of the School of Specialization of Emergency Medicine Urgency of the University of L'Aquila. In July 2009, following the earthquake in L'Aquila, she was commissioned to be part of the MIUR scientific committee to cure the reconstruction of the research laboratories of the University of L'Aquila.
